The Château was built in 1544 (Francis the First) on the foundations of a feudal château. Over time there were various changes and additions until the reign of napoleon III, when the château became as it is today. The main staircase is of special interest. The tower to house a spiral staircase had already been built when there was a change of plan : the resulting inexpert staircase, was the legacy of an architect trying to built one of the oldest staircase “à l’italienne” north of the Loire. At the end of the war, from 44-46, Fontenil was a hospital and maternities. Many of l’Aigle’s baby boomers were born there. For the past twenty years Fontenil has hosted opera workshops. Since 2005, Tapiézo regularly installs his paintings and sculptures. Every year, during the "journées du Patrimoine', Tapiézo proposes a painting and sculpture training course (workshops) at the castle with lodging for the participants."
On 26 April 1803 a meteorite shower rained down over several kilometres to the north of l’Aigle. For some time a controversy had raged between scientists such as Lavoisier, who thought that these so-called stones from heaven actually originated on earth, and others who believed that they did indeed come from the skies. So the “Académie des Sciences” sent Jean-Baptiste Biot to study what had happened. His recently re-edited report, gives conclusive proof that meteorites do come from the sky. This sample can be seen today in the Museum of l’Aigle. J-B Biots recently republished report definitively shows the celestial origin and becomes the first world report and meteorite reference.
Tapiézo constructs his paintings with elements as diverse as sand, gravel, wood, pigments and wire grid.
After this clever revisited XVIIth century alchemy, off we go on a trip through this utopian architecture in Tuscany. His poetic imagination is totally disorientating. He also suggests a mysterious Egyptian journey with his sculptures " Totem Hieroglyphs ".
Important companies enlighten their walls and communication with the artist's work. Monumental or thematic, art that can be touched and shared, that combines dream with authenticity offering a rare voyage.
The grid, for Tapiézo, is a reading tool, the layout of a page where recursive soothing symbols occur, circle, triangle, dash, point, from a common alphabet, a universal algebra. Here we are in the midst of an intimate, warm abstraction, unhampered by time.
